Our dream of many years ago was to cycle the Ring Road, the circular of about 1400 km that goes around the island. Today we can tell about our journey through Air, Water, Earth and Fire in Southern Iceland, from Keflavik to Hofn!
Sun or drizzle, drizzle or sun. Every hour the weather here in Iceland changes. And the wind? Always…for the enjoyment of those who run a bike. Stunning Air!
Liquid in the cascades that fall between the basalt columns or solid, enclosed in the icebergs that Vatnajokull glacier let slips into the ocean or again bubbling on a black sand beach, water sorrounds us. Stunning water!
Iceland rests on two divergent tectonic faults and expands by a few centimeters every year. Soon the mosses colonize the vast lava fields poured from the 7 volcanoes covered by Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Europe. Stunning earth!
Hot springs are quite common in west Iceland, not to mention the often active volcanoes. It’s like standing on a kettle over a fire somewhere underground. Stunning fire!
and then at the end…Stunning Iceland!!!
